NAKASERO PADEL CENTER

THE INSPIRATION
Inspired by the mid-century architecture of the original lodge and the legacy of President Kenneth Kaunda, the design melds vintage aesthetics with modern sophistication. Chichele, meaning “salt” in the local language, inspired the cracked salt colour palette—dominated by off-whites, clay, ebony, and copper—reflecting Zambia’s prominent export materials and creating sharp yet elegant contrasts throughout the interiors. Each space is thoughtfully designed, with interior styling fit for an elder statesman. The original footprint of the lodge was carefully preserved, with the bar and fireplace retained in their exact positions to maintain a sense of familiarity for returning guests. Expansive arched windows frame the valley below, deep verandas offer respite from the Luangwa heat, and a skylit reflection pond introduces a moment of stillness.
SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability is integral to the lodge's design. The renovation reused existing foundations and platforms wherever possible to minimise environmental impact. Locally sourced materials and energy-efficient systems further underscore the commitment to eco-friendly practices. Partnerships with local artisans—such as Tribal Textiles, Collective Hands, and others—ensure the interiors reflect Zambian craftsmanship, supporting local communities and preserving cultural heritage.
THE RESULT
The result is a seamless connection between past and present, landscape and architecture. Elegant, understated, and deeply connected to its surroundings, Chichele Presidential Lodge sets a new benchmark for sophisticated safaris. While its legacy remains firmly intact, the reimagined lodge offers a fresh perspective—one that celebrates history while embracing the future of luxury travel in Zambia.
